I have had the opportunity to travel to several different countries on various missions trip (Mexico, South Africa, Tanzania, & Uganda) ~ but this will be my first medical missions trip!
You might be wondering how that's possible, seeing as how I am not a doctor, nurse, or even anything in the medical industry :) We'll, a friend of mine that is a doctor went to Haiti with this same organization back in February. Upon her return, I had lots of questions, and one of them being--Is there any need for non medical people! Surprisingly, her answer was yes! She said that the doctors/nurses need 'runners' to essentially assist the nurses/doctors with various tasks. Running back and forth getting supplies needed for medical procedures, talking with the patients, praying with the patients, and assisting to man the pharmacy! I was so excited, that I got all the information of the organization, and contacted them right away!
I got in touch with the Director of the organization, applied, was accepted to come on a trip, and am now excitedly planning and preparing for this exciting journey! We will have 4 days of 15 hour clinics! It will be very busy, and an amazing experience to serve numerous patients.
I have always considered going into nursing, but wasn't quite sure if I could get past my fear of blood.. Guess this is my opportunity to see if I can actually handle it :) I have been prayerfully considering going back to school to pursue nursing. So I am excited to have a chance to 'work in the field' and serve with the earthquake medical relief!
I will be gone from May 23-29th! We fly first to Miami, stay the night, and then venture down to Haiti. We will be serving in Port-Au-Prince.
I will post many stories and pictures upon my return utilizing this site, and am so excited to share with all of you!
Please pray for the journey, the people, and our mission! :) |
